Duquesne University is located in Pittsburgh's uptown corridor in an area known as the Bluff. Duquesne's 43-acre hilltop campus, located some 115 feet above downtown Pittsburgh, offers impressive views of the Monongahela River, South Side, Mt. Washington and downtown Pittsburgh. It is also within easy walking distance to the cultural, recreational and commercial amenities of downtown. The Bluff is a diverse community, made up of long-time residents, university students, health professionals, and downtown workers who like the convenience of the neighborhood. Some early Duquesne University sports teams were referred to as "Bluffites" and/or "Hilltoppers" in reference the perch DU occupies high above the City of Pittsburgh.
